Gian-Carlo Carra is the newly elected Alderman for Ward 9. Carra has spent the past ten years engaged in Calgary-based front-line community service, action research, and professional urban design practice.

His common mission on all these fronts has been to empower communities to transform Calgary into the sustainably prosperous, democratically engaged, and culturally vibrant City we all want. While there have been many successes over the past decade, there is only so much that can be accomplished within the current system.

Gian-Carlo Carra - Aldermanic Candidate for Ward 9

This RabbitView video introduces, Gian-Carlo Carra. The Inglewood resident and first-time candidate is president of his community association, and has worked for both city hall and developers to design streetscapes and community plans around greater Calgary. He has repeatedly been frustrated dealing with city administration, and criticized the planning process during hearings into the Plan It sustainability blueprint -- leaving him convinced that council needs leaders who can reform the system. "We're not building the automobile-scale city correctly, and we're not building the human-scale city correctly, so we're in a sort of nightmare scenario." This piece provides a brief overview on Carra's background as well as his vision for Calgary.
